BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS

Sophie and her classmate have been working long hours to finish their second year collection for the annual TAIK student fashion show, Näytös 2012, held tonight in Kattilahalli, an old industrial venue in Helsinki. This is the school that produced the latest Hyeres winners and tonight's show is attended by many international editors, so it's going to be super exciting fashion times with a capital F. Tune in for blood, sweat and tears in form of garments made by one of the most talented fashion students in Europe. For the first time, the show is also streamed live today at 7pm, behind this Yle Areena link. I am looking forward to see the final pieces from these two future talents!

The Finns are in for a special treat tonight, since not only you can stream the student show live, you can watch a special alumni show presenting the AW2012 collections from Ensaemble, Sasu Kauppi, R/H and Saara Lepokorpi today at 8pm from Yle Teema. Remember to also check out the making-of documentaries when they re-run at 7pm before the show or at Yle Areena.

Good times!

And I am wearing a screaming red Ferrari-print college...

MIDAS TOUCH

Ring, silk top & skirt second hand and jacket Laitinen.

When you realize you often look like a low-key extra from Midnight Star's Midas Touch music video...

Everything starts to make sense.

It's all good.

I just wanna dance in the sun and eat desserts with 24 karat gold flakes all day long.

Good, good times.

Ps. If you're in Finland, tune in today YLE at 18.30 for the first part of the documentary Suomimuodin uusi aalto, which follows the designers behind R/H, Sasu Kauppi, Saara Lepokorpi and Ensaemble while they get ready for their AW2012 show that is broadcasted live on Friday at YLE Teema!

LET ME TAKE YOU TO THE MUSEUM

David Shrigley

Today is International Museum Day which means free entrance to museums!
I will visit Sophie Calle's exhibition in EMMA and Taryn Simon's exhibition in Meilahti. Two exhibitions I am really looking forward to.

Good times.

Too bad they don't sell popcorn.

THANK YOU

Some of you Finns might have noticed my name popping up in Trendi magazine in the past couple of months. I did a three month internship there and I wanted to take a moment and thank the wonderful staff for giving me the opportunity.

I haven't had the easiest beginning of the year. To be honest, this year started out really stressfully by getting fired and dealing with the pressure of applying to my dream school which also happens to be a dream school for tons of other talented people. Add 20 unsuccessful job interviews and a break-up to the previous and do the math.

It just not that fun week after week after week.

Especially when the weather is from Siberia.

Yet I've had splendid time thanks to this lovely magazine and it's staff. It's easy to get up every morning when you know that there's going to be a hectic and interesting day ahead with genuinely nice people. That you are going to learn something new and your work is appreciated. When you feel like you're actually gradually becoming better in something. When you are able to laugh and do your best even though things around you are falling apart.

Thank you guys, it means a world to me that you believed in me and gave me so much responsibility and support.

I owe you so much.

Thanks for being awesome.

Here's my fashion face!

BROKE WITH EXPENSIVE TASTE

1. Killing time in a bookshop
2. Mandy eating an apple
3. My silver leather shoes and new fabric that's going to be a maxi skirt soon
4. Tar

Today I borrowed Fujifilm's Instax mini camera from a pr office and documented some of my surroundings.

I'm sold over the fact that it makes my life seem like straight out of self service...

More pictures to follow!

ROMAN HOLIDAY

Model Laura S, Location Signora Delizia

Here is photos that took back in February in a cozy Italian cafe in Helsinki that I love. I dressed Laura in a vintage Liberty print cotton maxi skirt, crepe turtleneck, wool blazer and Omega Seamaster watch.

RIGHT WHERE IT'S AT

Shoes Acne Track

What I've been up to in the past days: polished my shoes and watched the documentary Page One: Inside the New York Times about the transformation of media and the newspapers role in it.

I know one thing the blogs can't replace newspapers in: pleasantly hued paper surfaces like the Financial Times to cover the floor when I'm applying shoe polish.

After reading it from page to page with large amounts of jasmine flavored green tea in the afternoon sun.

Enjoy your weekend!

I GOT INTO CSM!

 Laura, 2012

I had my interview for Central Saint Martins last Tuesday. Fast forward one Jeremy Deller/David Shrigley exhibition, Hinoki Scent Candle from Muji, Laura's air mattress, a Shoreditch bar with Ladyhawke sitting in the next table, Paolo Roversi gallery show, reduced price M&S food, flight to home and five hours of sleep later I read an email that says I got in.

London and BA Fashion Communication with Promotion here I come!

First of all, I would like to thank the Danish, because joking about your weirdly sounding language totally broke the ice in the interview.

Then I would thank myself because I'm awesome and I have worked so hard for this. I realized I've been working a year nonstop...even the Christmas was stressful because I had to think about the application. New Years eve? Doing inventory at work. Easter? What Easter? What did I do last summer, yeah I worked from nine to five. And I'm not complaining, it was all worth it and things are definitely not going to slow down from now on.

Last but not least, all my dear friends and you nice readers. Thanks, here's a internet high-five, you're all great!

Oscar speech over, on to the next...

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

The show ends, vampire themed entertainment skyrockets. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Bloodsuckers.

Summer to do list: Dark Angel, Charmed, X-Files and Xena.

PICTURE THAT ON KODAK

Lauri on film and Varpu on digital

Sometimes when things are falling apart, I remind myself that if I can sing the musical masterpiece of the song Rain Over Me by Pitbull and Marc Anthony sober with my awful singing voice to complete strangers and it's on tape, there's nothing to lose.

I mean, London and CSM interview next week, that's easy...
